Hayden Lake is considered the best warm water fishery in Northern Idaho. Castaway Fly Fishing Shop is the outfitter with exclusive guide permits on a lake fostering, Pike, Crappie, and Bass worthy of a feature story in Field and Stream. Located only five miles northeast of the City of Coeur d'Alene, Hayden Lake's crystal clear water and timbered shores make it one of the most beautiful and popular lakes in the Inland Northwest.
Reaching 196 feet in depth and covering 3,800 surface acres, Hayden Lake’s irregular shape provides over 40 miles of shoreline. It is fed by cool mountain streams and freshwater springs. The main portion of the lake runs seven miles long and is nearly two miles in width. Three sides of the lake are surrounded by the timbered Coeur d’Alene Mountains, which rise up to an elevation of 6,000 feet. This land is part of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest, an area rich in history and outdoor opportunities.
If you haven't tried Pike, Crappie, and Bass on the fly, we highly recommend it. Conventional fishing is also a great way to hook these monsters. Imagine the slap of the water against the boat’s hull, the snap and whine of the fly line just before a jerk on your line. Moments like that have kept the guides at Castaway coming back season after season.
Trip pricing is based on 1-4 anglers. Please call for trips of more than 4 anglers. Full day trips include lunch snacks and beverages. Half day trips include beverages. Also included is round-trip transportation to Hayden Lake if necessary.
